About Lions Clubs International:
- Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization: We have 1.3 million members in 45,000 clubs worldwide.
- Lions are everywhere: We're active in more than 200 countries and geographic areas.
- Lions have a dynamic history: We are best known for fighting blindness - it's part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects - including disaster relief - across many borders.
- Lions serve youth: Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs, including our popular Peace Poster Contest.
- Lions award grants: Since 1968, the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has awarded US$660 million in grants to support Lions projects around the world. LCIF was also ranked the number one nongovernmental organization in a 2007 study by The Financial Times.
- Lions are active: Our motto is "We Serve." A Lion never wonders: "What can one person do to improve his or her community?" Because Lions are part of a global service network, we do whatever is necessary to help local communities.
About McDonough Lions Club:
Founded on April 27, 1954, the McDonough Lions Club is still an active part of the local community as well as reaching out around the State and the World. We are an active group of both seasoned and new members, all dedicated to maintaining a strong, committed club that demonstrates the Lions Motto: We Serve.
What do Lions Do?(From the Lions Clubs International Website)
- When it comes to meeting challenges, our response is simple: We Serve. McDonough Lions Club is active in fundraising and service activities year-round to benefit our local community, but also projects throughout Georgia, throughout the Nation, and Internationally.
- We want everyone to see a better tomorrow. McDonough Lions Club raised over $6500 to provide free eye exams and eyeglasses to members of our local community who could not otherwise afford it. We regularly volunteer and donate funds to the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind and the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation. At all of our events, we offer free vision screening by trained Lions Members.
- We empower the next generation. McDonough Lions Club coordinates a Leo Club at Henry County High School and sponsors the annual Peace Poster Contest. The funds raised from our new Road Race will also go to support programs in Henry County that will serve local youth.
